Fans of Michigan State and college basketball will remember the name Keith Appling. He was a standout for the Spartans in his time with the program from 2010-14 . Things may have taken a turn for the worse in the 29-year-old’s life as he was arrested this weekend in connection to a deadly shooting in Detroit.
He was taken into custody Monday by Michigan State Police , approximately 50 miles west of Detroit in Chelsea, Michigan. In the course of the arrest a firearm was recovered. Appling was named a suspect in the shooting death of an 66-year-old man.
According to police, Appling and the man got into a disagreement Saturday that turned into a fight. Appling is alleged to have fired multiple shots that fatally injured the and then leaving the scene.
Appling,unfortunately, has had other scrapes with the law. on February of 2020 he was sentenced to 18 months probation for drug charges. In 2017 he was sentenced to a year in jail for resisting police and carrying a concealed weapon.
